There are no disadvantages, however Learning Stories are just one method of observation, you would be wise to use other methods as well.
Sometimes I have noticed people get too caught up in the narrative and write so much in learning stories and don't really focus on what the child has achieved, it simply becomes an essay on something the child has done.
Perhaps this will help you come up with some points to write on the disadvantages of learning stories.
One point may be that in a learning story you may be just looking at that particular context rather than a more broader perspective of the child's development.

A couple of disadvantages I could think of are:
1) time consuming
2) Some may use as an anecdotal record rather than as a story telling format
Other than this I really can't think of any disadvantages... I often use learning stories and I think they are a great way of Interpreting a child's learning!
